Citizens' Initiative against the planned Burgas-Alexandroupoli oil pipeline !!!!
THE PETITIONCitizens' initiative against the planned Burgas-Alexandroupoli oil pipeline Press Release On 15 March 2007 an agreement was signed between the governments of Russia, Greece and Bulgaria to allow for an oil - pipeline to be built. Tankers would bring crude oil from Russia to the Bulgarian port of Burgas and then the pipeline would transport the oil to the Greek port of Alexandroupoli. Oil would then be transported from the port by tankers with deadweight of 300 000 tons, against those currently crossing the Aegean Sea, which have half that capacity. An initiative by citizens of Alexandroupoli (the greek terminal of the pipeline) who disagree with the realization of this project has already been formed. Please support us in our effort and say "No" to the construction of an oil pipeline terminal in Thracian Sea. Because "the expected new jobs" will be few and specialized and will not be enough to replace those lost in significant economic sectors such as fisheries. Because this private investment was planned without public consultation, it will have a huge negative impact on the Environment and Economy and will reverse the current development orientation in the area, mainly based on fisheries, tourism and agriculture. Because the chances will increase for more polluting projects to be constructed in the region, such as Oil Refineries, Petrochemical industries, etc. We state that we are against this polluting private investment which will pose a great risk to sustainable development in the region, since it will bring irreversible changes to the environment, economy and current way of life of the area's population. DESIRED OUTCOMEThe desired outcome will be the cancellation of this initial inter-governmental agreement and the ultimate abandonment of the Burgas-Alexandroupoli oil pipeline project. WHO WE NEED TO INFLUENCEWe need to influence the Governments of Greece, Bulgaria and Russia to re-think this proposed private investment and not allow this project to go any further. HOW LONG WILL WE CAMPAIGNWe will continue the campaign until the desired outcome is reached. ΜΠΟΥΡΓΚΑΣ ΔΗΜΟΣΙΕΥΜΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΦΗΜ.ΚΑΘΗΜΕΡΙΝΗΣ
Βουλγαρία: Διαμαρτυρία για τον πετρελαιαγωγό Μπουργκάς - Αλεξανδρούπολη. Ένταση επικράτησε, χθες, Τετάρτη, στο Μπουργκάς, όταν, όπως γράφουν οι βουλγαρικές εφημερίδες, πολίτες που αντιτίθενται στην υλοποίηση του σχεδίου του πετρελαιαγωγού Μπουργκάς - Αλεξανδρούπολη εισέβαλαν σε αίθουσα, στην οποία ο πρόεδρος του διοικητικού συμβουλίου και διευθύνων σύμβουλος της Trans Balkan Pipeline (TBP), Αλεξάντερ Ταρακάνοφ και ο επικεφαλής της βουλγαρικής πλευράς στη ΤΒΡ, Στέφαν Γούντσεφ, ενημέρωναν το κοινό για το έργο. Ο αριθμός των πολιτών που συμμετείχαν σε αυτή την εκδήλωση διαμαρτυρίας δεν είναι εξακριβωμένος. Η εφημερίδα «Τρουντ» αναφέρει ότι 200 πολίτες «εισέβαλαν» στην αίθουσα, ενώ οι υπόλοιπες εφημερίδες αναφέρουν 100 άτομα. Πάντως, σε αυτό που συμφωνούν όλες οι πλευρές είναι τα συνθήματα, με τα οποία οι πολίτες εξέφρασαν την αντίθεσή τους στο έργο: «Παραίτηση» και «Έξω από το Μπουργκάς». Η ένταση που επικράτησε οδήγησε τον κ. Ταρακάνοφ και τους παράγοντες που τον συνόδευαν να εγκαταλείψουν την αίθουσα.Η εφημερίδα «Μόνιτορ» σημειώνει, μεταξύ άλλων, ότι ο κ. Ταρακάνοφ τόνισε ότι την έρευνα και τη μελέτη για τις επιπτώσεις στην προστασία του περιβάλλοντος ανέλαβε η εταιρία Environmental Resources Management (ERM).Στο μεταξύ, η εφημερίδα «Σεγκά» (Τώρα) στη λεζάντα της φωτογραφίας για το επεισόδιο αναφέρει ότι «στη διαμαρτυρία έλαβαν μέρος όλοι οι δημοτικοί σύμβουλοι της παράταξης «Ατάκα» (Επίθεση) με επικεφαλής τον ιδιοκτήτη του τηλεοπτικού σταθμού ΣΚΑΤ Βαλέρι Σιμεόνοφ, ο οποίος διατελεί και πρόεδρος του τοπικού «κοινοβουλίου» μαζί με στελέχη του κόμματος ΓΚΕΡΒ και οικολογικές οργανώσεις της περιοχής».
